The Battle of Tellus
This story takes place at the same time as TOS "Errand of Mercy" which introduced the Klingons.
The Defender class and its history is entirely my invention. Each vessel is named after a Marvel comics superhero team: The Defenders, the Champions, the Thunderbolts, the Rangers, the Avengers and the New Warriors. Somehow, U.S.S. X-men wouldn't have worked...
The disputed area was never given a name in TOS "Errand of Mercy", it was merely said that Organia was the only M-class planet in that region, but it seems plausible that a more general attack on the UFP might also occur.
Parker is named after Spider-man's real identity Peter Parker. Castle is named for Frank Castle, the Punisher. Blaise is named for Johnny Blaze, Ghost Rider. This continue my habit of naming security guards after comic characters. This time they're Marvel's solo heroes.
Murdock is named for Matt Murdock, Daredevil. Hardy is named for Felicia Hardy, Black Cat. Grant is named for Steve Grant, one of the alter-egos of Moon Knight - he had several.
The other guards are kind of randomised multi-ethnic names to provide some flavour.
Some of Tellus Prime's streets have names common to various towns and cities on Earth, like Main Street or Park Avenue. Several others are named for planets and stars. Others are named for various Earth spacecraft, stations and so forth.
Aero-Tech is named for the corporation in "Space: Above and Beyond". It was also referenced in a Red Shirts story.
Jupiter Mining Corporation is named for the company that owned/operated the ship in "Red Dwarf".
Lanak-Gar fighters are my invention, kind of like the fighters we see in several DS9 episodes. They're named after a Vulcan avian referenced in the TOS novel "Sarek".
Starbase 42 is referenced in "Star Trek: Red Shirts" as the base with sector command over Antalus.
D-5 Battlecruisers were first seen in ENT "Marauders", as a contemporary type. It seems reasonable, given the K'tinga class battlecruisers continued service into the late 24th century, that the D-5s would continue to serve into the 23rd. It's a theory given credence by Kor's reference in DS9 "Once More Unto the Breach" to having served on a D-5 earlier in his career.
D-4 Bird-of-Prey is my own term to describe the Klingon vessels seen in ENT "The Expanse" and others. See above about the long service of Klingon warship classes.
The reference to the Enterprise at Organia is of course a reference to TOS "Errand of Mercy".
U.S.S. Dedalo is a Constitution class vessel of my invention.
Deep Space K-7 is the station that appears in TOS "The Trouble With Tribbles" and DS9 "Trials and Tribble-ations". Since the Klingons visited it, it must be near the border.
Potemkin and Excalibur both appear in TOS "The Ultimate Computer". Yamato is a ship of my creation. All three are Constitution class.
Latorre is named after a Chilean naval hero. It's a smaller ship, Tromp class. Sahand is named after a mountain in Iran and is a Centurion class. Kara is named after the sea in northern Russia. It's a Sirius class.
Lucas is named after Carl Lucas, aka Luke Cage, Power Man. Wilson is named after Wade Wilson, Deadpool.
The heated weapons part of the story is taken from the end of TOS "Errand of Mercy" where the Organians cause this to happen.
The Organian Peace Treaty was first referred to in TOS "The Trouble With Tribbles" and mentions the provisions described here.
Louise's comment about 'decades of unremitting hostility' is a reference to Spock's description of Gorkon's peace initiative in "Star Trek VI" as a chance to end 'over 70 years of unremitting hostility'.
Pirates of the Borderland
This story takes place about three weeks after "The Battle of Tellus".
Blackrock Industries is the name of the company in the US Marvel Transformer comic whose owner, GB Blackrock, aided the Autobots.
Jupiter Mining Corporation was previously referenced in "The Battle of Tellus".
The Volkov is a Triton class starship.
Attack of the Gorn
This story takes place three weeks after TOS "Arena".
Reilley is named for Marvel character Ben Reilley aka Scarlet Spider. He and Castle have their first names swapped.
The Van Der Vaal is named after the first man on Mars by my conjecture.
Red Star Technologies is named for the company in "Charlie's Angels", mostly because I liked the name.
Parker Datalink is named for the computer company which played a pivotal role in the movie "Timecop". It was variously Parker-Macomb Datalink, Parker Datalink and Macomb Datalink.
The H-class is my invention. Supposedly Deep Space K-7 from the Tribble episode is a K-class so I just picked another letter.
Starbase 55 number is basically because Vanguard Station is Starbase 47 in the Vanguard novel series and it allows for Starfleet to have built/set up seven other stations in the mean-time.
The Head-hunter
This story takes place several months after 'Attack of the Gorn', despite Louise's reference to 'the new kids' who replaced the casualties from that story.
The canny will recognise the killer as being a Predator.
Kera and Phinda are Tellarite gods or other mythic figures. They were referenced in the TOS novel "Prime Directive".
This story was my attempt to do a serial killer tale, hence it getting a bit CSI with all the forensics.
The bit where Louise believes she heard someone whisper 'psycho' is a homage to the Predator's repeating some words in the movies spoken by human characters like 'Danny-boy' and 'Take it' in Predator 2.
The training facility is intended to be a crude, less sophisticated version of a holodeck.
I admit the scene at the end where V'kel mentions the legend is intended as a suggestion that besides visiting Earth, other Trek-verse planets may have been visited by Predators. One can imagine the Klingons and Romulans may have been visited, but the Andorians would've been ignored since P2 establishes they are drawn to heat and conflict. There again, given AVP's Antarctic pyramid...
Trackers
The Altair system's civil war and the election of a new President in the system was established in TOS "Amok Time". The exact nature of the conflict is explained in my SO story "Mission to Altair".
Rachel Stewart and Kan Ri Ark replace the officers killed in 'The Head-hunter'.
Vale is a homage to Boba Fett from Star Wars.
Harry Mudd debuted in TOS "Mudd's Women". He was last seen by the Enterprise crew being stranded on the planet he named Mudd with a large number of robot copies of his wife. Presumably he escaped.
Arjan first appeared in "Mission to Altair" as the villain.
The other criminals are just names I chucked in.
Rogue Tracer as a euphemism for 'bounty hunter' is a homage to the Fighting Fantasy 'choose-your-own-adventure' book 'Rogue Tracer' in which you play a futuristic bounty hunter.
Freelance Peace-keeping Agent as a euphemism is a homage to the Marvel UK character 'Death's Head' who preferred the far longer title.
Bax is the currency of the Altair Confederacy and my creation. The name is a kind of pun on 'green-backs' a slang term for money and 'bucks', meaning Dollars.
Ancient West was how the 'Old West' was referred to in TNG 'A Fistful of Datas'.
